Type I Diabetes Predisposition

Type I diabetes is a condition that is considered an autoimmune disease. The body produces antibodies against the B-cells of the pancreas, which are responsible for the secretion of insulin, and gradually destroys them.

Pancreatic islet cell autoantibodies (ICA): is present in the majority of patients with type I diabetes (85%). The examination is particularly useful for first-degree relatives who are not ill, for the prognosis of the development of the disease, and for the timely taking of prophylactic measures.

Insulin autoantibodies (IAA): are an independent autoimmune marker in type I diabetes. They make insulin non-functional, and therefore the body's sugar regulation is problematic.

GABA antibodies (anti-GABA): the most sensitive predictor for type I diabetes. They appear even several years before the onset of the disease and precede the rest of the autoimmune antibodies of the disease.

With glycated hemoglobin (HbA1-c) we measure the average value of glucose over a period of 8 – 12 weeks and find out if we finally have the manifestation of the disease.
