Prostate cancer

It is the most common cancer in men after 50 and the second leading cause of death in men of this age. It is estimated that a total of 1 in 6 to 8 men will develop the disease.

Tests for the prevention of prostate cancer should start, according to medical company guidelines, from the age of 50, but it is usual to be proven from the age of 40.

Among the indications may be:

  1. Frequent urination, especially at night
  2. Weakness - intermittent urination
  3. Pain or burning during urination or ejaculation
  4. Purulent secretions in urine / semen
  5. Pelvic/upper thigh discomfort

These indications can also be presented in cases of:

  1. prostatic hyperplasia
  2. prostatitis
  3. Urinary Tract Infection
  4. sexually transmitted diseases

Early diagnosis and treatment are intended to prevent advanced disease with difficult-to-manage metastases, mainly to the bone.

  1. Prostate antigen (PSA): Elevated results are associated with benign hyperplasia, malignant neoplasia, prostatitis, or other irritation of the prostate.
  2. Free-PSA (free prostate antigen) is used in the assessment of mainly marginal results of PSA, to separate them as normal or pathological - cancer.
  3. General urinalysis - Urine culture Detection of only pyoglobules in the urine (with a negative culture) may indicate the presence of prostatitis, while a positive culture may indicate the presence of a urinary tract infection. Both conditions significantly increase PSA readings in the absence of prostate cancer.
  1. Transrectal ultrasound: Possible signs of differentiation of the gland (with possible cancerous expression), and signs of inflammation (prostatitis) are shown.
  2. Axial - Magnetic Tomography / Bone scintigraphy Assessment of cancer extent
