Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress is thought to contribute to the development of a wide range of diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diseases caused by diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, neurodegeneration, as well as cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

The body's antioxidant mechanisms include:
  1. antioxidant substances of the organism itself (mainly albumins and uric acid)
  2. dietary trace elements
  3. nutritional vitamins
  4. enzymes

In these mechanisms, we can act and strengthen them in nutrition. For this reason, it makes sense to measure certain parameters (trace elements and vitamins) of the body's antioxidant capacity.

The measurement of antioxidant trace elements and vitamins is particularly recommended in cases of:
  1. the diet is deficient in quality or quantity.
  2. the exposure to oxidizing agents is high (e.g. smokers).
  3. the consumption of these vitamins is increased especially in cases of long-term intake of antioxidants. preparations - supplements, in order to establish a possible toxic overdose.

Vitamin A (retinol). A good source of it is beta-carotene or provitamin A which is mainly found in carrots. Strong antioxidant abilities with regenerative properties on the skin. Hypervitaminosis can be dangerous.

The most basic and necessary forms of it are measured in cluster B:
  1. B2 (Riboflavin) Its deficiency causes reddening and cracking of the lips, inflammation of the tongue, eye disorders as well as exfoliating inflammation of the skin. Vitamin B2 deficiency can occur in women during pregnancy and lactation.
  2. B9 (folic acid)
  3. B12 (Cyanocobalamin) Its deficiency can be caused by an exclusively vegetarian diet or by diseases of the large intestine (eg hernias), diseases of the small intestine or stomach, and drugs that affect its absorption.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) It is the main water-soluble vitamin shown to improve vascular function by inhibiting the effects of oxygen free radicals on nitric oxide. By smoking, a large part of the vitamin C, that is present in the body, is destroyed.

Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol) Strong antioxidant vitamin with anti-cancer and protective properties against infections. It regulates the absorption of calcium from the bones and a possible lack of it causes a disturbance in the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus, as a result of which the bones become weak. Its measurement is absolutely necessary in people with osteoporosis.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol) is the main fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin. Vitamin E deficiency causes sterility, in both males and females, as well as tissue damage, especially in nerves and muscles. It is administered therapeutically in cases of frequent miscarriages and in muscular dystrophy. In studies, it seems to help prolong life, but also to inhibit the deposition of atheromatous plaques in the vessels.

Selenium (Se) is a trace element with strong antioxidant properties. It increases the number of sperm and their motility and reduces the number of sperm with genetic damage. Necessary for testosterone production.

No specific preparation (Oxidative Stress Test) or any special diet is required for these analyses, and blood sampling can be done at any time of the day.

Results are given within 3 working days.
