Metabolic Panel (Metabolic Panel)

What is this?

Metabolic Panel (Metabolic Panel) gives us a supervisory examination of the health of the main organs of the body, for metabolism. Metabolism is defined as the set of processes of anabolism ("building" the body) and catabolism ("deconstruction" of the body).

INDICATIONS – SIGNIFICANCE

The metabolic panel is used

  1. in the basic hematological health testing
  2. as the first group of tests for the most common malaise conditions

The tests check the main organs - functions of the body, and the basic trace elements:

  1. the liver, the main metabolic organ that manufactures most enzymes and proteins.
  2. the kidneys, the organs of excretion of the remains of burns.
  3. the electrolytes that are hydration regulators.
  4. the levels of sugar which is the body's energy currency.
  5. blood proteins, which are the structural components of organs and immunity.
  6. the red cell recycling mechanism.

Variations in the rates of the analysis of the basic metabolic panel can help to detect many diseases of the body.

LABORATORY CHECK

The metabolic panel is a part of the basic checkup and can be carried out on a random time basis, as an image of basic elements of our health, in between scheduled Check-ups. The exams that are included are:

Sugar (Glu) Possible hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia as well as subclinical latent diabetes (prediabetic state) are controlled. The most useful is the measurement of 2-hour sugar, i.e. the sugar after two hours of a meal rich in carbohydrates and sugars, with which the predisposition to diabetes is detected with greater sensitivity.

Calcium (Ca) Its values, which are outside of the expected limits are associated with many endocrinological disorders (e.g. thyroid and parathyroid gland), lack of vitamin D, but also other serious diseases.

Total proteins - albumins - globulins and albumin quotient (TP, Alb, Glob) All of these elements are produced and regulated by the metabolism of the liver and are directly related to the general health of the body and the immune system.

Electrolytes - sodium, potassium, chlorides, carbon dioxide (Na, K, Cl, CO2) A number of conditions - diseases, which cause an extremely difficult chemical environment in the body and affect important functions such as those of the heart - muscles, kidneys, and brain can appear possible imbalances

Urea and creatinine (Urea, Crea) is the combustion products of catabolism, which are eliminated by the kidneys. Increased blood concentrations may be associated with a temporary or chronic decrease in renal function or simple dehydration. Indirectly, useful conclusions can be drawn such as for cardiac function and hematopoietic capacity, and for adequate protein prevention.

Alkaline phosphatase, transaminases (ALP, ALT, AST) are the basic enzymes, found mainly in the liver, and bilirubin (TBil) is a 'waste' that is excreted from the liver, during the recycling of aged red blood cells. Taken together, they are a good biochemical picture of liver function and health.

Preparation for morning blood draw and laboratory testing:
  1. Mandatory meal the night before, 11-12 hours before blood sampling.
  2. The evening meal should contain as little animal fat as possible (if cheese, fatty dairy, and meat are consumed)
  3. taking no meal in the morning, except coffee and a piece of toasted bread, with free drinking of water.
For taking the urine:
  1. collect your first morning urine.
  2. Wash locally with plenty of water, without soap
  3. discard the first urine of urination and collect a small amount of the middle urine in a special urine collector.

The results are given on the same day.
