Celiac disease – is an autoimmune condition that causes gluten intolerance. It is superficial damage on the small intestine caused by the immune reaction mainly to the consumption of gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and other grains.
The damage caused to the intestine by gluten irritation can also cause problems with the body's ability to absorb many important nutrients, such as iron, and vitamin B12, which is why it is part of the analysis in the investigation of anemias.
Recently, celiac disease has also been associated with infertility for both men and women. Women can experience cycle abnormalities, even amenorrhea or early menopause, while men can experience low testosterone levels. There are many reports that celiac disease is a key factor in infertility.
Among the severe clinical symptoms presented are stomach cramps, bloating, cachexia, anemia, and diarrhea.
Laboratory indications for celiac disease are unexplained low levels of iron and vitamin B12 and possibly low hematocrit.
