Vitamin D3 25OH is obtained dietary (mainly from fish oils) and is synthesized in the skin by sunlight.

Long-term lack of it is associated with:

1. at younger ages with rickets and increased chances of juvenile diabetes
2. at older ages with insufficient absorption of calcium in the bones and with problematic immune regulation

The lack of it (Vitamin D3 25OH) in the Greek area according to studies is at a rate greater than 50% in the general population.

It is recommended for every preventive Check Up of any age and especially for follow-up investigations in:

1. Children for the correct development of their skeleton
2. Osteopenia - osteoporosis (especially menopausal women)
3. Indications of malabsorption - gastrointestinal disorders - polypharmacy
4. Eating disorders - vegetarianism - weight control diet - oligophagia in older people
5. Hyperparathyroidism

For adults, the following are applied:

1. Expected levels in healthy people: 20-50 ng/ml
2. Severe lack of <10 ng/ml
3. Toxicity > 100 ng/ml

Simple blood collection happens at any time of the day (7.30-19.30)
