It is a test (Prostate Antigen PSA) that belongs to the markers of neoplasia. These substances at some level are produced by normal body cells. When "new" cells appear, then their most intense metabolism produces these substances at increased levels.

Young cells can be a result of:

1. tissue regeneration after some destruction - inflammation
2. development of new pathologically differentiated tissue or non-pathologically differentiated tissue

Its use is suggested for prostate cancer

1. in preventive - preventive health control
2. in the monitoring of neoplastic disease and assessment of the corresponding treatment

Indicative values for adults (18-65 years old)

< 49 years old: < 2.50
50 - 59 years old: < 4.00
60 - 69 years old: < 5.00
>70 years old: < 6.50

The evaluation is done exclusively by the clinical urologist, as the examination is significantly affected

• Benign prostatic hyperplasia (constantly high values)
• Acute or chronic prostatitis can give false values (unstable high values)

The use of the test as an indicator of neoplasia in such cases is often significantly limited.

2. measurement after 3 days from the last clinical examination - massage of the prostate
3. without restrictions on food from the previous day
4. without restrictions on possible medication intake
5. the result is not affected of any existing transient illness - cold
