What is this?

Measles is a viral infection from the paramyxovirus that affects the lungs.

INDICATIONS – SIGNIFICANCE

The infection is transmitted very easily through breathing and through the air.

Measles is manifested with fever, cough and runny nose, red eyes, and conjunctivitis, while skin rashes and characteristic red bumps in the mouth appear too.

There is no specific treatment for measles, limiting its treatment to rest and supportive treatment with antipyretics.

Measles can cause significant complications, from diarrhea to pneumonia and encephalitis. These complications are stronger and more dangerous in older people.

Vaccination is the most important way to prevent the disease and its side effects.

LABORATORY TESTING

Two hematological tests for the detection of IgM, and IgG antibodies against measles, give us information about

1. successful or unsuccessful vaccination
2. possible sufficiency of recall antibodies from an earlier infection
3. immune reaction from a recent infection
