Mucinous Carcinoma Antigen MCA

What are Antithyroid Antibodies?

The Mucinous Carcinoma Antigen MCA test is a marker used in the detection of neoplasia (tumors). These substances are produced by normal cells of the body at some level. When “new” cells appear, then their more intense metabolism produces these substances at elevated levels.

Young cells can be a result of:
  1. Tissue regeneration after some destruction – inflammation
  2. Development of new differentiated pathological or non-pathological tissue
Where Used

The use of NSE is recommended for monitoring neoplastic disease and assessing corresponding therapy in the breast.

The marker can also be used supplementarily in the same way for liver neoplasias.

The test is not included in check-up – screening tests.

Reference Values – Normal Laboratory Ranges

In adults (18-65 years), indicative values are reported at: < 11 U/L

Increased NSE values may be found in non-cancerous diseases.

The check-up for Mucinous Carcinoma Antigen (MCA) is an important tool for evaluating the health of the respiratory system. Through this test, it is possible to assess the presence and quantity of Mucinous Carcinoma Antigen (MCA) in the body, which can provide significant information about respiratory health and the presence or potential development of diseases.

The test for Mucinous Carcinoma Antigen (MCA) usually involves collecting a sample of mucus from the patient’s respiratory tract or lungs. This sample is then examined for the presence and quantity of MCA. The detection of elevated MCA levels may indicate that the patient is experiencing an inflammatory condition or other respiratory diseases, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, or cystic fibrosis.

Monitoring MCA levels can help in the prevention or management of respiratory problems and inflammation in the respiratory tract.

Elevated MCA levels may be associated with various conditions, including:

  1. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Increased mucus production is common in patients with COPD, as inflammation and airway thickening can lead to mucus-producing cells.

  2. Chronic Bronchitis: Inflammation of the bronchi can lead to increased mucus production.

  3. Cystic Fibrosis: Patients with cystic fibrosis have increased mucus production due to the dysfunction of their respiratory glands.

  4. Allergy: Hypersensitivity of the respiratory system to allergens can lead to increased mucus production.

Monitoring Mucinous Carcinoma Antigen (MCA) levels can help doctors prevent potential health problems and provide preventive care or treatment, thus improving the quality of life for patients.
