What are they?
Influenza Type A B / subtypes H1N1 / H3N2 is a common viral respiratory infection with symptoms ranging from mild to severe and can sometimes be fatal.
Where Used
The influenza Type A B / subtypes H1N1 / H3N2 test detects the presence of the virus in a sample of respiratory secretions.
The selection of influenza detection tests is performed on individuals showing signs of influenza, for:
- Differentiating from bacterial infection (and avoiding inappropriate and harmful antibiotic use)
- Administering appropriate medications and reducing symptom severity
- Protecting close contacts, especially children, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and immunocompromised individuals (chemotherapy)
The available tests are :
- Rapid response (immunochromatography) for simultaneous detection of Influenza Type A and Type B. A positive result is diagnostic of the infection. However, a negative result does not exclude the infection. According to the literature, the tests detect the infection in 50-70% of cases.
- Molecular Biology RT-PCR for individual detection of Influenza Type A, Influenza Type B, subtypes A H1N1, and H3N2. The tests have a detection sensitivity of up to 100%. They are relatively time-consuming and much more expensive. These specific tests are required when rapid test results are negative.

The laboratory check-up for Influenza Type A and B is an important part of preventive healthcare. Influenza is a respiratory infection caused by the Influenza Type A and B viruses. This test is often conducted during the flu season or for preventive reasons, to detect the presence of influenza viruses and to take appropriate preventive and management measures.
This check-up detects the presence of the influenza virus in the body, providing information about the possible onset of the disease and the type of virus circulating in the community.
Influenza Type A and B viruses are responsible for the seasonal flu that occurs every year and affects millions of people worldwide. Influenza Type A virus is known for causing pandemics, while Influenza Type B virus often causes smaller outbreaks. Both viruses are highly contagious and can cause serious health complications, especially in vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and people with underlying medical conditions.
The check-up for Influenza Type A and B can be conducted through various methods, including rapid antigen tests and molecular PCR tests. Rapid antigen tests are faster and easier to use but may have reduced sensitivity compared to molecular PCR tests, which are more sensitive and accurate. Molecular PCR tests require more time and specialized equipment but provide more reliable results.
The check-up for Influenza Type A and B should be conducted during the flu season and be available to all patients with respiratory infection symptoms, especially vulnerable groups. Early diagnosis and effective management of influenza can help reduce the spread of the virus and prevent complications.
