Metabolic Syndrome

WHAT IT IS (Metabolic Syndrome)

Risk factors, individually or in combination for cardiovascular – diabetes – kidney disease:

  • Abdominal fat
  • Increased blood sugar/insulin resistance
  • Dyslipidemia

INDICATIONS – MEANING

Medical companies estimate that in the US, 25% of the population has metabolic syndrome. It is found equally often at all ages, and is found in overweight people with significant fat accumulation in the abdominal area and limited physical activity.

Criteria of metabolic syndrome are :

Early and effective treatment of metabolic syndrome is important, as it gives up to greatly increased chances of :

  • Severe cardiovascular diseases ( causes prothrombotic tendencies, hypertension )
  • Chronic inflammatory reactions
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney diseases

LABORATORY TESTING

Fasting blood sugar / 2-hour blood sugar :

Fasting blood sugar / 2-hour blood sugar (2 hours after a hearty meal) and the blood sugar curve canbe used to assess the body’s ability to manage sugar properly.

Glycosylated haemoglobin HBA1c :

Glycated haemoglobin HBA1c, is the measurement of average blood sugar levels over the last 45 days

Insulin and c-peptide :

Insulin and c-peptide, hormones responsible for burning sugar.

Lipid profile (cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, triglycerides, total lipids, Apo A-100, Apo B, Lp(a) ) :

Lipid profile (cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, triglycerides, total lipids, Apo A-100, Apo B, Lp(a)) andlipid metabolism, and their dietary contribution to the measurements obtained. It is used as an independent indicator of cardiovascular risk.

The 24-hour urine microalbumin (Alb-U-24h) :

24-hour urine microalbumin (Alb-U-24h) Checks the health of the kidneys and is evaluated as a prognostic indicator of possible kidney failure.

hs-CRP (C-reactive protein), homocysteine (Hcy), adiponectin :

hs-CRP (C-reactive protein), homocysteine (Hcy), adiponectin Assess the inflammatory response caused by the syndrome.

Metabolic Syndrome Check-Up

Metabolic Syndrome is a set of parallel conditions that often coexist in the same patient and are a major risk factor for heart, respiratory and metabolic health diseases. This set of symptoms and conditions includes hypertension, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, excessive waist circumference and hyperlipidemia. In addition, metabolic syndrome is often associated with insulin resistance, a condition in which the body’s cells react less to the insulin produced by the pancreas. This resistance can lead to hyperglycemia and, eventually, type 2 diabetes.

Causes and Risk Factors:

Metabolic Syndrome is usually caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and behavioural factors. Risk factors include obesity, lack of physical activity, a diet high in fat and carbohydrates, and genetic predisposition.

Symptoms:

Symptoms of metabolic syndrome may be minimal at first and include hypertension, hyperglycaemia, excessive waist circumference, hyperlipidemia and insulin resistance. In the advanced stages, more serious health problems can arise, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease and other metabolic diseases.

Diagnosis (Metabolic Syndrome Check-Up):

The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome is based on symptoms, medical history, blood pressure, blood glucose and lipid levels and waist circumference.

Addressing Metabolic Syndrome Check-Up):

Treatment of metabolic syndrome usually involves lifestyle changes, such as exercise and diet, as well as drug therapy to control hypertension, diabetes and blood lipids.

Conclusions:

Metabolic Syndrome is an important condition that must be treated seriously and managed adequately to prevent serious health consequences. Prevention, diet, exercise and good health management can help to treat and prevent metabolic syndrome.
