WHAT IS.
Helicobacter pylori is easily transmitted from person to person, enterostomatically, even through exhaled aerosol. Thus, if one person carries the infection, it is almost certain that the infection is present in both members of a couple or in all members of a family.
The infection is treated simply, with combination medication.
Postponing treatment, apart from the possible stomach discomfort and severe bloating that often occurs even after eating a little food, leads in the long run to :
- chronic gastritis with dyspeptic symptoms in 30-40% of cases.
- ulcers of the duodenum or stomach in 10-15% of cases and an increased chance of developing peptic cancer.

Helicobacter pylori is a form of bacteria that affects the human digestive system. It belongs to the Helicobacter class, with Helicobacter pylori being the best known species associated with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. This microorganism is associated with various conditions, such as indigestion, ulcerative diseases and stomach cancer. The investigation and treatment of Helicobacter pylori is an important aspect of medical practice, with the use of specialised techniques and drugs to treat this infection.
The presence of Helicobacter pylori can cause various symptoms and diseases. Many patients carrying the bacterium have an asymptomatic infection, while in others it can cause symptoms such as indigestion, ulcers, gastritis and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In some cases, Helicobacter pylori infection can be associated with serious complications, such as stomach cancer and ulcers caused by its presence.
The diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori is usually made through blood tests or breath tests. These tests allow doctors to detect the presence of the bacterium in the patient’s body. In addition, endoscopy may be recommended, in which samples are taken from the area near the pyloric sphincter to determine the presence of the bacterium and the possible presence of ulcers.
Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection usually involves the use of antibiotics, in combination with other drugs such as proton pump inhibitor pancreatin (PPI) and anti-inflammatory drugs. Combination therapy of these drugs helps in the exploratory role of eliminating Helicobacter pylori and relieving the symptoms it causes. In addition, probiotic supplements may be recommended to help restore the normal microbial balance in the digestive system.
Treatment of Helicobacter pylori is important not only to relieve symptoms but also to prevent complications it can cause. In some cases, if not treated in time, Helicobacter pylori infection can lead to ulcerative diseases or even stomach cancer.
It is also important to consider prophylactic factors that can help reduce the risk of Helicobacter pylori infection. These include following good hygiene practices, such as washing hands thoroughly before eating, avoiding eating unhealthy foods and treating underlying conditions that may affect immune function.
Finally, monitoring and follow-up of the patient after treatment is equally important. In addition to retesting to check for the presence of Helicobacter pylori, doctors can monitor the patient’s reaction to treatment and make any adjustments necessary to improve results.
