Gastroscopy is a non-invasive examination, performed with the help of a thin flexible examination tube. With proper administration of intoxication, the test is not noticeable – uncomfortable.
It is the test of choice in diagnosis:
- stomach ulcers
- gastritis – oesophageal reflux
- Helicobacter pyllori infection (helicobacter pyllori)
- differential diagnosis of coeliac disease – intolerance
Indications that recommend the immediate performance of gastroscopy are :
- Stomach pains which may pass with the use of antacid medicines
- Bloating during eating
- Acidic taste in the mouth
- Undiagnosed drop in hematocrit – iron – ferritin – vitamin B12
With gastroscopy, additional stomach tissue can be taken for :
- cytological examination
- immediate isolation of the Helicobacter for the extraction of a specific antibiogram, in case the first eradication treatment fails.

Gastroscopy is a diagnostic procedure used to examine the inner wall of the stomach and intestine. During this procedure, a thin flexible tube, called a gastroscope, is inserted through the patient’s mouth and captures images of the surrounding tissue.
During the procedure, the patient is placed in a hypnotic position and given a local anaesthetic in the neck to reduce the inhibitory physical impact of the body’s physiological response. The gastroscope is then slowly and carefully inserted through the mouth and directed towards the stomach and intestinal tract.
As the procedure progresses, experts evaluate the inner surface of the stomach and intestine to detect any abnormalities or deficiencies. The images recorded during gastroscopy can be used to assess the health of the digestive system and to provide an accurate diagnosis in case of possible diseases.
After the procedure is completed, the gastroscope is gently removed from the patient’s mouth and the patient can be restored to normal daily life. Responsibilities for processing the recorders and performing analyses fall on medical staff trained for this purpose.
Overall, gastroscopy is an important tool in the field of medical diagnosis and provides doctors with the ability to examine the inside of the digestive system accurately and effectively, in order to prevent and treat potential diseases and health problems.
