Colonoscopy is a non-invasive examination, performed with the help of a thin flexible examination tube. With proper administration of intoxication, the test is not noticeable – uncomfortable.
Preceded by 2-3 days of dietary preparation and taking an appropriate laxative the day before to completely cleanse the intestine
Colonoscopy is used as a test for the early diagnosis and monitoring of inflammatory autoimmune bowel diseases, mainly for :
- ulcerative colitis
- Crohn’s disease
It is a “mandatory” test at Check Up level for the early detection and simultaneous removal of precancerous polyps from the intestine in individuals:
- over 50 years of age
- over 40 years of age with a personal history of bowel polyps or a family history of bowel polyps – carcinomas
The removal of any polyp is done during the colonoscopy in a simple, quick and safe way and in practice it eliminates the possibility of colon cancer.
The colonoscopy after the first examination is repeated every five years to ensure early detection of polyps that may occur in the future.

Colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure used to examine the inside of the colon (lower intestine) and the potential for problems such as polyps, inflammation and bowel cancers. This procedure is one of the most important tools for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal diseases.
During a colonoscopy, a thin, flexible tube called a colonoscope is inserted into the colon through the anus. This colonoscope is equipped with a camera on its tip, which allows the doctor to examine the inner wall of the colon and perform possible interventions.
The colonoscopy procedure usually involves the following steps:
-
Preparation: before the test, the patient must follow a special diet to empty the colon. Usually this means following a low-fibre diet and drinking special fluids to allow for bowel cleansing. This preparation is important to ensure successful testing and accurate results.
-
Conduct: During the examination, the doctor inserts the colonoscope into the colon and carefully examines the inner wall of the colon. If any abnormal findings are detected, a sample may be taken or even injections for biopsy.
-
Conclusion: After the examination is complete and all areas of the colon are checked, the colonoscope is gently removed from the colon.
Colonoscopy is an important way of diagnosing colorectal diseases and can help prevent and treat bowel cancer. In addition, colonoscopy can be used to remove polyps and other abnormal findings detected during the examination.
