Rubella Erythema IgG / IgM

Rubella (Rubella IgG / IgM) is a virus with a high incidence in the population. The infection with the virus is usually mild and occurs with a fever and rash that lasts about 2 to 3 days.

The infection is highly contagious but can be prevented by vaccination.

The rubella virus can be spread easily through sneezing. The virus infection is mild with a characteristic red rash on the face and neck, which spreads over the body. Among other symptoms can be fever runny nose, red eyes, joint pains. Their intensity is usually low, to the point where they are not noticeable

Possible rubella infection in the first trimester of pregnancy can cause:

  1. Miscarriage - necrosis in the fetus
  2. Congenital rubella syndrome in the fetus (mental developmental disabilities, deafness, cataracts, liver-heart problems)

The Rubella IgM/IgG test detects rubella antibodies produced by the immune system. It is used:

  1. In prenatal screening, Toxo IgM/IgG antibodies are performed to see if there will be immunity to the virus (from antibodies from a previous infection (Rubella IgM negative / Rubella IgG positive)
  2. During pregnancy, if an immunity to the virus is not found in prenatal screening, Toxo IgM/IgG antibodies are tested for possible infection during pregnancy

PCR can be requested

  1. in equivocal IgM/IgG results in pregnant women

For adults, the following are applied:

  1. Immunized from past infection - vaccination : Rubella IgM negative / Rubella IgG positive
  2. Non-immunized / not exposed to Rubella : Rubella IgM negative / Rubella IgG negative
  3. Current recent Rubella infection : Rubella IgM positive / Rubella IgG negative or positive
