Prostate free antigen free PSA ratio

It is a test (Prostate free antigen, free PSA ratio) that belongs to the neoplasia indicators. These substances at some level are produced by normal body cells. When "new" cells appear, then their most intense metabolism produces these substances at increased levels.

Young cells can be a result of:

  1. tissue regeneration after some destruction - inflammation
  2. development of new pathologically differentiated tissue or non-pathologically differentiated tissue

It is recommended to use for:

  1. the preventive - screening test in prostate cancer
  2. in increasing the sensitivity of total PSA

In adults (18-65 years old) indicative values are: < 20% of the value of the total PSA

The evaluation is done exclusively by the clinical urologist, as the examination is significantly affected

  1. Benign prostatic hyperplasia
  2. Acute phase or chronic prostatitis can give false values

The use of the test as an indicator of neoplasia in such situation is often significantly limited

Simple blood collection happens at any time of the day (7.30-19.30)

  1. measurement after 3 days of abstinence from the sexual act
  2. measurement after 3 days from the last clinical examination - massage of the prostate
  3. without restrictions on food from the previous day
  4. without restrictions on possible medication intake
  5. the result is not affected of any existing transient illness - cold

The result is given on the next day after 6.00 pm. for blood draws until 11.00 am

The private cost of an individual examination (Prostate free antigen, free PSA ratio) is 15 euros.
