The Histocompatibility Antigen HLA DQ2 / DQ8 is a special protein present in a percentage of the population, on the surface of cells. It belongs to the histocompatibility system, i.e. the mechanism of recognition of the body's cells as familiar to the immune system.

HLA DQ 2/8 is used as a genetic marker in celiac disease.

The choice of the examination is made mainly in people with a family history of celiac disease and who have:

1. high risk of disease
2. tests with controversial results for the diagnosis of celiac disease

A positive result is not proof of the disease

A negative result excludes the diagnosis of the disease in people with equivocal results (including biopsy).

2. without restrictions on possible medication intake
3. the result is not affected of any existing transient illness - cold
