Fetal Antigen CEA

It is a test (Carcinoembryonic antigen CEA) that belongs to the neoplasia markers. These substances at some level are produced by normal body cells. When "new" cells appear, then their most intense metabolism produces these substances at increased levels.

Young cells can be a result of:

  • tissue regeneration after some destruction - inflammation
  • development of new pathologically differentiated tissue or non-pathologically differentiated tissue

It is recommended to use NSE to monitor neoplastic disease and assess the corresponding treatment in:

  1. esophagus
  2. stomach
  3. Colon
  4. Liver
  5. Pancreas
  6. gallbladder
  7. Breast
  8. ovaries
  9. Cervix
  10. lungs bronchi
  11. thyroid
  12. bones

This test is not included in a check-up - screening

For adults (18-65 years), indicative values are: < 5 ng/ml, for smokers: < 10 ng/ml

Simple blood collection happens at any time of the day (7.30-19.30)

  1. without restrictions on food from the previous day
  2. without restrictions on possible medication intake
  3. the result is not affected of any existing transient illness - cold
  1. The result is given on the same day
  2. Possibility of urgent response in 1 hour

Privately, the cost of a single test (Carcinoembryonic antigen CEA) is 15 euros*.

The examination is prescribed at the EOPYY**, with the participation of the examinee as defined in the referral (15%, unless otherwise stated)
