What is
Anti-nuclear antibodies are a group of many different autoimmune antibodies.  
That are used
Anti-nuclear antibodies are the most sensitive blood test for the diagnosis of Sharp syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Anti-nuclear antibodies are positive in cases:
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus (> 95%)
  • Mixed connective tissue disease (> 95%)
  • Sjogren's syndrome (75-90%)
  • Scleroderma (70-90%)
  • Polymyositis - Dermatomyositis (40-60%)
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (rare)
  There are also cases where anti-nuclear antibodies appear positive and in healthy subjects, especially in older age or in relatives of SLE patients.
